Apprentice for Industrial Business Manager in Wermelskirchen, Germany
I passed my university-entrance diploma in 2009 and then I spent six months working and travelling in Australia. After completing an introduction-to-business year for school leavers, I decided to train as an industrial manager at Interroll.
As Interroll is an international company and I love visiting new countries, meeting new people and experiencing new cultures, I asked my trainer if it would be possible to spend some time at one of our enterprise abroad. Our manager was really keen on the idea and so I was given the opportunity to spend two months at our location in Wilmington in the USA.
Whilst there I worked in bookkeeping, sales and purchasing. As SAP was only introduced at Wilmington in October 2013, every now and then I was able to help out using the skills that I had already learned.
I had a really good experience working with our American colleagues. I was warmly welcomed into the team and they looked after me well outside of working hours too.
It was really interesting to get to know another Interroll site, discover a different way of living and working, and experience American culture. When you live in a place, you experience these things in a completely different way to when you're tourist just travelling around the country. Wilmington's location was obviously different for me, too: If you come from a rainy, mountainous place, spending two months in sunny North Carolina by the ocean is a terrific change of scenery.
Over Easter, I even had the opportunity to book myself a long weekend in Washington D.C. It's a really beautiful city and well worth a visit.
I really enjoy working at Interroll because the working atmosphere is simply fantastic and working with my colleagues is great. Interroll are also very supportive in terms of my personal development. They are helping me prepare for my final exam with a preparatory course. I've also been to an external seminar and been able to complete a language course at the Interroll Academy.
Right now I couldn't imagine working anywhere else.
My best moment so far is when I was told that I could spend two months in the USA. I was really happy about that.
My current goal is to pass my final exam this year with good marks before doing anything else. I can also picture myself working abroad for a while at some point.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing sport and I read a lot. I love taking photos on my travels and I bought myself an SLR camera just last year.
